Straight answers
The questions drivers ask most.
Every vehicle and location is different. These answers explain what to expect before you call or text.
Ask Wayne directlyCan Wayne really repair my car in my driveway?+
Many common diagnostics, batteries, brakes, maintenance and mechanical repairs can be completed at your home, workplace or another safe parking location. Wayne will confirm whether the vehicle, repair and location are suitable before the visit.
What should I tell Wayne when I call or text?+
Share the vehicle year, make and model, its location, what it is doing, any warning lights and whether it starts or moves. Photos of the dashboard, leak or damaged area can also help Wayne prepare.
Does Wayne provide the parts?+
Parts planning depends on the diagnosis and the vehicle. Wayne will discuss the correct parts, availability and service approach before the repair begins so the next step is clear.
How far does Wayne travel?+
Wayne is based in Westerville and lists Columbus, Westerville, Dublin, Hilliard, Gahanna, New Albany, Worthington, Reynoldsburg, Grove City, Pickerington, Delaware, Lewis Center, Powell, Canal Winchester, Pataskala, Ohio as service areas. Call or text the exact location to confirm travel availability for the requested appointment.
What are Wayne's hours?+
Published hours are 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Sunday. Calling ahead is the best way to confirm the soonest available appointment.
Can Wayne quote a repair before seeing the vehicle?+
Some straightforward services can be planned from accurate vehicle details, while symptoms such as warning lights, noises or no-starts may require diagnosis first. Wayne will explain what can be confirmed before the visit.
What if the vehicle is stopped on the roadside?+
Move to a secure location if it is safe to do so and share the exact location and symptoms. Roadside work depends on traffic, ground conditions, weather and whether the repair can be performed safely where the vehicle sits.
Can Wayne inspect a used car before I buy it?+
Yes. Wayne offers independent mobile pre-purchase inspections that can include diagnostic scanning, visible engine-bay checks, brake and tire observations, and a practical review of the vehicle's condition before you commit.
Can I request same-day mobile mechanic service?+
Same-day help may be available, but timing depends on Wayne's current route, the vehicle, the diagnosis, parts access and your location. Call or text as early as possible with the year, make, model and symptoms for the clearest availability answer.
Can Wayne work at my apartment or workplace?+
Often, yes, when the property allows vehicle service and there is a safe, level space with enough room around the car. Check property or workplace rules first, and mention garages, restricted lots, street parking or limited clearance when scheduling.
What kind of parking space does a mobile mechanic need?+
A firm, level driveway or private parking space away from moving traffic is usually best. The area should have room to open doors and access the relevant side of the vehicle. Soft ground, steep slopes, active roadways and tight garages can make some work unsafe.
Does rain, snow or extreme weather affect an appointment?+
It can. Outdoor work must be safe for Wayne, the vehicle and the repair being performed. Heavy rain, snow, ice, high winds or extreme temperatures may limit the job or require rescheduling. Share whether covered space is available when you call.
Are there repairs that should go to a traditional shop?+
Yes. Some repairs require a vehicle lift, alignment rack, machine work, specialty equipment or a controlled shop environment. After hearing the symptoms or inspecting the vehicle, Wayne can explain whether mobile service is practical for that job.
Is a check-engine code scan the same as a diagnosis?+
No. A scan identifies codes and computer data related to the system that noticed a fault; it does not automatically prove which part failed. A proper diagnosis may also require visual inspection, live data, electrical testing or mechanical checks before parts are recommended.
Do I need to be present during the appointment?+
Wayne needs authorized access to the vehicle, the keys when required and a reliable way to reach you for findings or repair decisions. If you cannot remain with the car, discuss access, property permission and communication before the appointment.
What is needed for a pre-purchase inspection at a dealership or seller's home?+
Confirm the seller permits an independent inspection, provide the exact address and arrange a safe place with access to the vehicle. The VIN, keys, maintenance records and permission for diagnostic and road-test checks should be available when applicable.
Does Wayne help with maintenance for small business fleets?+
Wayne offers small-fleet maintenance support when the vehicles, location and requested work are suitable for mobile service. Share the number and type of vehicles, their location and the maintenance or diagnostic needs so Wayne can discuss a practical plan.
What should I do if warning lights appear and the car feels unsafe?+
Reduce risk first. If steering, braking, engine temperature or vehicle control has changed, move to a secure location only when it is safe and stop driving. Tell Wayne which lights appeared, how the vehicle behaved and where it is parked so the next step can be assessed.
Can diagnosis and repair happen during the same visit?+
Sometimes. If testing confirms the cause, the correct parts are available and the repair is safe to complete on-site, Wayne may be able to continue. Other problems require parts planning or a follow-up after the diagnosis is clear.
How long does a mobile mechanic appointment take?+
Timing varies with the vehicle, access, diagnosis and repair. A straightforward maintenance service differs from tracing an intermittent electrical fault. Wayne can provide a better expectation after reviewing the vehicle details and symptoms.
Should the engine be cold before Wayne arrives?+
Some cooling-system, oil and engine-bay checks are safer and more useful when the vehicle has cooled. Tell Wayne when the car was last driven and whether it overheated so he can advise how to prepare.
Should I clear a check-engine light before the appointment?+
Usually no. Stored codes, pending codes and freeze-frame information can help show when and how the fault occurred. Clearing the light or disconnecting the battery may erase useful diagnostic context.
Can Wayne work on an older or high-mileage vehicle?+
Vehicle age alone does not decide mobile eligibility. Parts access, condition, previous modifications, the requested repair and safe access all matter. Send complete details so Wayne can assess the best starting point.
Can I provide my own parts?+
Discuss parts with Wayne before purchasing anything. Correct fit depends on the VIN, engine, trim and diagnosis, and an incorrect or poor-quality part can delay the appointment or fail to address the actual problem.
Does a diagnostic trouble code identify the part I should buy?+
Not necessarily. A code identifies a system or condition detected by the vehicle computer. Wiring, leaks, mechanical faults and related systems can produce similar codes, so testing should guide parts replacement.
Can Wayne service hybrid or electric vehicles?+
Capabilities depend on the vehicle and requested work, especially around high-voltage systems. Share the exact year, make, model and symptoms so Wayne can confirm whether the service is appropriate.
Is mobile mechanic service the same as towing?+
No. Mobile service brings eligible diagnosis or repair to the parked vehicle. If the location is unsafe or the vehicle needs shop-only equipment, towing to an appropriate facility may still be the safer next step.
Can Wayne inspect a car that has been sitting for months?+
Yes, depending on the vehicle and location. Mention how long it has been parked, why it stopped being used, battery condition, visible leaks, tire condition and whether the engine has been started recently.
What if the car starts sometimes but not always?+
Intermittent faults can require more context and testing. Record what happens, weather or temperature, sounds, warning lights and whether moving the key or waiting changes the symptom. Avoid repeatedly disturbing wiring or clearing codes before the visit.
Can Wayne inspect a fluid leak without knowing which fluid it is?+
Yes. Note the color, smell, location, size of the spot and when it appears, but avoid touching unknown fluid or opening a hot cooling system. Photos on clean cardboard can help show the pattern.
Will a pre-purchase inspection guarantee the car has no problems?+
No inspection can guarantee future reliability or reveal every concealed issue. A PPI provides independent observations, available diagnostic information and practical context to help the buyer make a more informed decision.
Can the seller stay during a pre-purchase inspection?+
The buyer and seller should agree on access and location before the appointment. Wayne needs enough space and permission to perform the planned checks without creating a conflict or unsafe working environment.
Does a mobile inspection include a road test?+
A road test depends on permission, registration, insurance, vehicle condition, location and safety. Wayne will explain what can be included for the specific inspection rather than assuming every vehicle can be driven.
What if my wheel-lock key is missing?+
Tell Wayne before any brake, tire or wheel-related appointment. A missing or damaged wheel-lock key can prevent wheel removal and change what can be inspected or repaired during the visit.
Can Wayne build a maintenance plan for my vehicle?+
Wayne can help review known service history, visible condition, mileage and manufacturer guidance to identify practical priorities. Unknown history may require inspection before a reliable plan can be organized.
What happens if the problem is different from what I described?+
That is common because several faults can create similar symptoms. Wayne uses the information as a starting point, then explains the test findings and any change in repair scope before moving forward.
